PSU Ombuds Office

The following four principles provide the basis for Ombuds work:

Confidential

The Ombuds Office will not keep any permanent records about you or the information that you share with the Ombuds.  The Ombuds will not share any information you give with anyone outside the Ombuds Office without your permission.  The only exception to this privilege of confidentiality is where there appears to be imminent risk of serious harm.

Impartial

The Ombuds Office will not take sides in an issue or dispute, and will consider the interests and concerns of all parties involved with the aim of achieving a fair and equitable resolution to the issues presented.  We do not engage in any situation, which would create a conflict of interest.

Independent

To ensure objectivity and effectiveness, the office operates independently of administrative authorities.  The Ombuds Office reports directly to the University President for administrative and budgetary purposes, but not regarding the substance of matters discussed in the office.

Informal

The Ombuds provides opportunities for informal dispute resolution.  The Ombuds does not participate in formal adjudicative or administrative procedures and does not accept formal complaints or notice for the University, but can provide information on how to do so.
